A sibling was leaving today and taking along a very large oil painting. It couldn’t be removed from the frame as it was hammered in so enthusiastically that there was a risk the canvas would tear. So I had a very large box constructed, a centimetre larger on all sides than the painting, which would then be filled in with foam and plastic. It was uncertain if the very large box could indeed go onto the aeroplane as it was a few centimetres larger than the largest permissable dimension, though within the weight range, but since the sibling was travelling business class there was hope that it would be allowed through. Which it was, and in the process somehow the very large and sturdy box developed a hole in it. I’m not sure at all how this could have happened sort of taking a pickaxe to it. It’s unknown if the painting survived, and we won’t know till the sibling unpacks it on the other side. Here’s hoping.
